Fundación leverages its associations with world-class researchers and lecturers to provide the best courses possible. New events, seminars and workshops are regularly announced on the News and Events section. Fundación's main Courses and Programs are the following:

  • Science and Friendship Program (more)
  • Genetic Engineering for Opinion Leaders (more)
  • The Eureka Program (more)
  • Chile invites Chile Program (more)

Science and Friendship Program
In 2002, Fundación and the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) established joint research activities in Santiago. Since then, graduate students and faculty members in biological and chemical sciences at UCSF have traveled to Chile to meet, discuss research and socialize with their Chilean counterparts. The activities have included seminars and technical courses.

The Program is about bringing together, once a year, graduate students and professors from UCSF with graduate students and professors from Fundación and associated centers. The goal of this program is to build a sustainable, multifaceted partnership that will serve as a model for scientific interaction across countries. The underlying goal is to establish a new paradigm for international collaboration in biological sciences between UCSF and Fundación and its associates. (back to top)

Genetic Engineering for Opinion Leaders
Fundación has created a workshop on genetic engineering and biotechnology for opinion leaders in Chile. This unique initiative has been honored to count Chilean Presidents, Senators, high ranking officials as well as local and international businesspeople, entrepreneurs and other representatives of the public and private sectors as students. As a result of this workshop, opinion leaders are better prepared to understand the potential of new technologies, such as biotechnology, and to make informed decisions on related issues from a legal, financial, business or public perspective.

The workshop is designed as a twelve-hour course program that includes presentations and discussions about biotechnology and its potential applications in Chile and the world. More importantly, it includes experiments performed by the participants that illustrate the basic principles of genetic engineering, which is key to modern biotechnology. This practical experience in the laboratory opens the door to much broader and better informed debate about biotechnology and its impact on the development of a knowledge-based economy.
