Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans .

Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans growing at pH 2 in liquid medium (left) or solid agarose medium (right) supplemented with Fe(II) as an energy and electron source. The dark red deposit in the tube is jarosite (precipitated Fe(III) associated with phosphate) and makes the recoveryl of cells of A. ferroxidans very difficult.
